What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry, practiced by dentists such as Dr. Hotic in Charlotte, NC, aims to alleviate patients' anxiety and discomfort during dental procedures. This technique involves administering medication to induce deep relaxation, making dental visits more comfortable. By opting for sedation dentistry, patients can receive treatments in a calm and stress-free state, particularly beneficial for those with dental phobia or undergoing complex procedures. Dr. Hotic and her compassionate team prioritize patient comfort, creating a soothing environment for a positive dental experience.
What Are My Options?
- Oral Sedation: Oral sedation, also known as pill or conscious sedation, involves taking a prescribed medication prior to your appointment, which induces a state of deep relaxation while still allowing you to remain conscious and able to respond to verbal cues. This form of sedation is particularly beneficial for individuals with mild to moderate anxiety or those undergoing more extensive dental procedures. Our experienced team will carefully monitor you throughout your visit to ensure your safety and comfort. With oral conscious sedation at Dentistry of Uptown Charlotte, you can relax knowing that your dental needs are being met with compassion and expertise.
- IV Sedation: IV sedation dentistry is the deepest form of conscious sedation available in a dental office setting. Our partnering anesthesiologist delivers sedative medications directly to your bloodstream through an IV line. During your procedure, our team of professionals monitor your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels. They can adjust your dosage at any point and can use reversal medications if necessary. Most people who receive IV sedation dentistry fall asleep and have little to no memory of their treatment when they wake up. This option is best for people with severe dental anxiety or those who are undergoing lengthy procedures.
- General Anesthesia: General anesthesia is a specialized form of sedation offered at Dentistry of Uptown Charlotte for patients who require a deeply unconscious state during dental procedures. Administered by board-certified anesthesiologists in our facility, this approach ensures the highest level of safety and expertise. General anesthesia is typically recommended for patients undergoing complex dental surgeries, extensive restorative treatments, or for individuals with severe dental phobia or developmental disabilities who may not respond well to other sedation methods. By inducing a temporary state of unconsciousness, general anesthesia allows our skilled dental team to perform procedures efficiently while ensuring the patient remains completely unaware and free of discomfort. Rest assured, your well-being is our utmost priority, and we'll work closely with you to determine the most appropriate sedation option for your unique needs at Dentistry of Uptown Charlotte.
